  • How to Create a Strong Letter of Intent

The Letter of Intent (LOI) is the formal request of a nonprofit seeking financing from a foundation or other charitable organization. This letter is generally sent to foundations that require an LOI before sending a formal application with a grant proposal.

The Letter of Intent is a vital source of information for the foundation and helps the grantors decide who should apply for the funding opportunity. LOI’s are also a great way to reach out cold to a foundation if you don’t have a relationship with them. To start off on the right foot, it’s important to have a strong LOI.

Here are some tips for writing a strong Letter of Intent:

    1. Keep it brief and to one page. If the organization has certain requirements it may continue on to a few more pages, but in general, keep it short and sweet
    2. Always follow the instructions of the organization as closely as possible
    3. Always address your LOI to a specific person, not “to whom it may concern” if possible
    4. Always include the name of your organization, the amount you’re asking for, and a description of your project

  • Branding for Mission-Based Organizations

Branding is a broad concept that is often hard to explain. Most individuals think of branding as the logo, colors, or fonts of an organization, while in reality, the brand is the organization’s personality – think about Kentucky Fried Chicken’s Twitter account or DuoLingo on TikTok.

Beyond the personality of an organization, branding communicates the values of an org and can even build trust with consumers. The better the brand, and the more consumers know and feel in line with an organization, the more likely they are to either invest, shop, or donate.

“Your brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room”

To help your business create a strong visual brand, I created my Mission-Based Business Brand Guide Workbook. This workbook provides over 15 pages of education, free resources, and workbook pages to craft a strong mission statement, and create a strong, visual brand that caters to your organization’s unique personality. **Scroll to the bottom for a free preview to download**
